Why do we get cellulite, anyway?

Firstly, cellulite is not at all related to being overweight. And nor is it a problem or a reflection on your health. It is caused by the interaction between connective tissue below the surface of the skin, and the layer of fat that is just below it.

It most commonly appears in women, simply because fat cells and connective tissue are arranged vertically rather than in a criss-cross formation as in men. It can also show up as we age, partly due to the decrease in collagen production and a loss of skin elasticity. In fact, 80-90% of women will experience cellulite at some stage in their lives. It’s not a problem, but some people can feel self-conscious.

A groundbreaking way to reduce cellulite

There are plenty of treatments out there promising to reduce the appearance of cellulite with varying degrees of success. But we have committed to only offering this innovative anti-cellulite treatment because we have seen the difference it can make.

Whether you want a confidence boost before summer or simply to feel better in your own skin we have been amazed by the results with acoustic wave cellulite treatment, also known as shockwave treatment.

How acoustic wave therapy works

Acoustic wave therapy is a non-invasive cellulite treatment which helps firm up skin in the problem area, taking years off. It does this through soundwave technology to target fat tissue through the skin. There are no needles or knives involved, and it is totally pain-free and safe.

Our expert practitioners deliver soundwaves via a handheld device to the treatment area which travels through your skin to treat the affected area, leaving you with firmer, smoother skin.

Acoustic wave therapy is used to treat cellulite in problem areas such as buttocks, upper thighs, and even arms. Although it won’t promote weight loss, the treatment tends to be more effective alongside a light exercise and stretching program.

The science behind it

A painless non-surgical cellulite treatment, acoustic wave therapy is designed to tackle the underlying connective tissue congestion and rigidity found in cellulite. This rigidity restricts blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which also adds to the overall problem.

Although there is no long-lasting solution for cellulite at the moment, acoustic wave therapy can help improve its appearance. It does this by breaking down the fibrous tissue and relaxing the septae, allowing fat cells to form a smoother contour, therefore firming the skin and improving the appearance of cellulite.

By breaking down the hardened fibrous septae, acoustic wave therapy can restore the skin’s elasticity. The underlying skin is also thickened, which stops the dimpled orange peel effect in the skin from appearing, while the therapy will also break down fat cells. The whole process improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage to the treated area.

A session typically lasts between 30-60 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. First, we’ll apply a gel to the area being treated, followed by a handheld device. As a non-invasive cellulite treatment, acoustic wave therapy isn’t painful and just feels like vibrations on your skin.

Treatment is best avoided if:

  • You are pregnant

  • Have any existing skin, allergy, coagulation, or hormonal health condition

Are there any side effects?

AWT is a non-invasive, pain-free therapy; therefore there is no risk to your health and side effects are unlikely.
